Two Questions For You:

First - San Diego.  My husband has a conference there next week, and he and I are going (alone!!! - thanks mom!!).  I was wondering if any of you live in San Diego - or have been there - and could recommend some things for us to do?

Second - what should I do with this?

I bought it at the dollar tree, because I thought it would make a good door decoration.  But it looks kind of bland.  And for the life of me and CAN NOT think of a good way to spice it up.  Suggestions?

Really, thanks for reading this blog- you all make a difference in my life.

  1. I bought a similar decoration several years ago and still haven't done anything with it. (Mine was an Easter egg.) But my plans were to layer it on contrast fabric and stitch around the edges, maybe gluing on some sequins here and there.

  2. Jessica, first, let me say I love your blog. Thanks for inspiring me! Second, you & your husband may enjoy going to "children's beach" in la Jolla when you visit San Diego. The seals bask on the beach & it is their "pupping season", so you can see lots of mommies & babies. Adorable! Check out all the artists workshops & museums in Balboa Park, too. Have fun!

  3. ooh!! I live about 25 minutes north of Downtown San Diego - in Carlsbad! You guys are going to have a blast. I have lots of ideas - I'll send you an email. ;)

  4. Go to Adalberto's (1868 Rosecrans Street, San Diego ). Get the California burrito. With guacamole. Near the aiport and absolute best burrito I have had in my life to date----and I don't anticipate it getting beat any time soon, or ever...

Seriously. I have visions about this burrito. And the tortillias.......OH the tortillias---home-made warm happy goodness.

    I cannot say enough.

    Go there.

    Or else.

And also get carne asasda fries at some point on your trip from some whole in the wall Mexican restaurant.

And soak in the CA sun:)

And if you decide to come up to SF on your trip---let me know! :)

  5. thanks for the tips so far! bella - I will DEF. get that burrito - Ryan will be excited about that as well :)

  6. I don't have any ideas for SD, but I do like the idea of adding a contrast fabric to the decoration. Maybe you could also use some kind of ribbon to frame around it.

This post also makes me realize I need to make a Dollar Tree trip soon! Thanks for the reminder :).

  7. MEXICAN FOOD! I live in LA but I am no help for San Diego except to say eat Mexican food! I haven't had any real mexican food in 5 years... so sad!
Also is the decoration made out of felt? and if it is is it super hard?

  8. I've been to San Diego the last two years for a conference...unfortunately I haven't got to visit the place like I would if I were in control of the trip (i.e. I have no restaurant recommendations)...buuuuut...The San Diego Zoo's Safari Park (located in Escondido) is pretty fab if you're into wild animals. I second Christini's nods to Children's Beach--you can get VERY close to the seals--and Balboa Park. Cabrillo National Monument is gives you a nice view overlooking the city and some nice historical perspective. Have fun! You're going to love the warm sun :)

  9. okay! we will definitely get mexican food :) Jessica, yes the decoration is made out of felt - it's not super hard, I think I could sew through it.

  10. Hello! I am Cheryl from Bungalowonbank...nice to "meet" you! I would definitely decoupage that little door thingy with some colorful paper or Anna Maria Horner fabric. I love your blog.

  11. Take a jacket or sweatshirt or both. SD can be a little chilly this time of year.

  12. I would glitter the decoration. Lots and lots of glitter!
